Morning Commute
This 6ftx18ft oil painting is well-suited for a public commuter space, public restaurant, business atrium, etc. The work, a painting called "Morning Commute" is a statement on the life of a commuter, suburban sprawl and reverse culture shock. It is the intersection of three stories: a universal story, a cross-section of the day-to-day world we experience on the way from point A to point B; a personal story, about my move back from Prague, in the Czech Republic, to this strange new/old place where I was born called the USA; and finally, an accidental story, our impact on the environment and each other - an inter-dependency of natives and transplants familiar to most Charlotteans. I started this painting in 2005 and completed it in 2015. This subject although serious and maybe a bit sinister in many ways is also told with a sense of humor.
